Architects can become individual designers in private practice, join a corporate group, become city planners, environmental systems designers, or employees of organizations that develop commercial, institutional, or residential projects. Architects can design furniture and lighting, transportation and sports facilities; they can become architectural historians, teachers, advisors, or consultants. Graduates of the program also work in other venues such as graphic design and computer animation; they obtain government and urban planning agency positions. National and international firms of all kinds recruit Washington State University graduates. The program in Construction Management focuses on providing a professional construction management education. Construction managers serve as primary agents between architects and the construction process. They oversee schedules, budgets and construction processes and methods. Construction managers are often involved in the early phase of projects working with architects, developers and owners in establishing parameters and goals for the project. Graduates of WSU assume office and on-site positions in local, regional, and national construction companies of all kinds where they work on every scale of project. The construction management program at WSU is a four-year Bachelor of Science program located at the Pullman campus. The program is accredited by the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE).
