The SR26 Project
Stretching from Vantage to Colfax, Highway SR26 (Washington State Route 26) crosses a landscape that displays some of the most significant geological, agricultural, botanical, and cultural conditions found in Eastern Washington. This project proposes to add a series of architectural interventions that will focus attention on these remarkable features.

Under the direction of Paul HIrzel, Associate Professor of Architecture, graduate students in the Architecture and Construction Management program at Washington State University have produced a series of projects that elaborate the conditions along the flanks of SR26. From sand dune sculptures to 30 story flood towers, from glowing wind lights that float above the ground to rock climber cliff dwellings, the projects endeavor to create uncommon experiences out of what many perceive to be a common highway.
