Dr. David Gunderson is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Construction Management at Washington State University . He has 4 years teaching experience in construction management subjects, and brings more than 30 years of work experience into the classroom. That experience includes 20 years of extensive experience in construction project management including cost control, scheduling, estimating, construction inspection, quality control, contract administration and legal aspects of project execution and claims avoidance, and superintendence. Dr. Gunderson has ten additional years experience in hands-on aspects in the construction industry including construction foreman, carpenter, concrete finisher, and laborer. Dr. Gunderson took the American Institute of Constructors Level II CPC exam in 2000 while still working as a project manager in Alaska . He supports the Constructor Certification process and encourages construction management students to take the Level I exam. Dr. Gunderson has been very involved with Habitat for Humanity serving as vice president of the board of directors for both the Fort Collins , Colorado and the Anchorage , Alaska affiliates. He has served as project director and site supervisor for sponsored houses in Anchorage . One of his current academic focuses involves service-learning, integrating his teaching and Habitat for Humanity to provide students with an opportunity for experiential education. Dr. Gunderson’s research interests include international construction management and construction culture, affordable housing, construction contract selection, construction education and training.
